I have only 2 comments to make on the process of a leadership contest in political Canada.
1. Leaders are not chosen by how good they will be for the Nation, the leader the party chooses is picked for the ability of that leader to win the next election. Anyone that has read my writing know very well that I dislike the party system, here is another instance where the peoples’ interest and Democracy are sacrificed for the interests of the Party. This is one of the reasons that Canadian have not and will not see a Statesman leading a political party.
2. Have you noticed that the Liberal Party election runs very different than the elections that the people are given. This weekend we saw that the election operated in a very Democratic fashion, whereas the people are denied a Democratic election. Ontarians elect a Government via first past the post method, whereas few as 35% of the votes wins a Party an election. By contrast the leader is chosen very much Democratically. The lowest vote leadership candidate is knocked out of the race each ballot until the one leader wins that has more than 50% of the vote. Leave it to politicians to run a two faced system.
