Yeehaw, Riding the 1% Dream

super rich

So, how is your treadmill treating you? It was not too many years ago that a man could go to work and make a sufficient enough funds to keep his family. Then expenses became such that the lady of the house had to go out just to make ends meet, and now, now for many, even with the 2 working, they can’t keep up with the bills.

I’d like to bring to light the culprit, compound interest and the nail in the coffin, materialism. Hand in hand, married in destructiveness, they sweep through homes, villages, cities and nations, and they destroy everything that taste their fruits.

The time is near that the middle class will be a faint memory and the population running on their treadmill will wear their legs down to their bum just trying to keep up to their loan payments and consumerism. People, we need to examine the economic system now, while we still have legs to get off the mill. Letting the situation go much longer and we will have very few options to help ourselves from this race to the bottom.

I wanted to point out the insanity of our present so-called free enterprise system that the 99% live in today. While the 99% have slept and continue to choose to sleep, the 1% have been active in arranging an economy that not only suits them, but also greedily taking money out of the pockets of even the poorest people. These people have no moral or ethical values and they fight to take the last penny from your fingers.

Who doesn’t have a  credit card, and banks, sending cards to you, “you have been preapproved.” Is it the greed for more that tempts us to use the card? Is it that the card seems to be an opportunity to get the payment for other bulging debts that makes the new card seem to be an tool to bring you more time to get your finances in order, and that is why you fool yourself to use it? Whatever it is the harangue of commercials and seeing it in the store displays, and social pressures that everyone else has one makes you believe that you need the newest computer, cell phone, newer car or appliance until we are all wallowing in debt. We have put ourselves on the treadmill with the help of our friends the stores, “Will that be on your Wal Mart card?” Or, “you can get 25% off your purchase if you fill out this form for a Superstore credit card.” What they aren’t telling you is save 25% today and we’ll get the 25% back when you don’t pay for your purchase, and for every dollar of debt you put on the card. And if you don’t mind, let me slip this ball and chain on your leg. We are a people, without a god except for the one that we can touch – material – and who can be satisfied with things; certainly not even the rich. They want more, the more they have, and they will not be satisfied until they have it all.

Here are some facts about the Super Rich.

How Much do the Super Rich Make

If you ask the question, how much money do the Super Rich make ( I will not justify their greed by using the word “Earn” ) in comparison to the average wage earner? To answer that question we go to The Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives. “Canada’s 50 highest paid CEOs make 235 times more than Canadians earning the average wage. If you think that’s normal, it’s not. In 1995, Canada’s top 50 CEOs made 85 times more than the average wage”.

The article states that “by 12:00 noon on January 3rd, the first official working day of the year, Canada’s Elite 100 CEOs (the 100 highest paid CEOs of companies listed in the TSX Index) will have already pocketed $44,366. It takes the Average Joe an entire year, working full-time, to earn that same amount”.

That article can be found at:  http:////www.policyalternatives.ca/publications/reports/canada%E2%80%99s-ceo-elite-100

Here is a article that should cause great concern for the 99%. From Forbes Magazine we read:

Super Rich Hide $21 Trillion Offshore, Study Says

“A new report finds that around the world the extremely wealthy have accumulated at least $21 trillion in secretive offshore accounts. That’s a sum equal to the gross domestic products of the United States and Japan added together. The number may sound unbelievable, but the study was conducted by James Henry, former chief economist at the consultancy McKinsey, an expert on tax havens and offshoring”. (end of report)

So what does this mean? This means that all this money, sent to offshore accounts, was never taxed. Further, if this money never was taxed, the Super-rich have found a way to let the 99%  keep our governments financed and the economy going (remember after 9-11, Bush encouraged the American people to get out and shop?)

And speaking of shopping, our best retail pals the Waltons of Wal Mart. Again, from Forbes Magazine, we read:

Six Waltons Have More Wealth Than the Bottom 30% of Americans

Jeffrey Goldberg tells us that six members of the Walton family (the original owners of Wal Mart) have more wealth than the bottom 30 % of Americans. Here’s where he says it:

“In 2007, according to the labor economist Sylvia Allegretto, the six Walton family members on the Forbes 400 had a net worth equal to the bottom 30 percent of all Americans”. (end of article)

Full article: http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2011/12/14/six-waltons-have-more-wealth-than-the-bottom-30-of-americans/

And consumers keep flocking to Wal Mart to fill the Waltons’ bank with money.

Continuing with our pillars of society, the Waltons, they have found all kinds of creative ways to work the system that are beyond the access of normal folk. Some will question the ethics of what they did, here is a little habit Wal Mart took on to pick up a little extra coin, Wall Mart would take out life insurance on employees and collect if the employees died. Relatives had no knowledge of the policies and were not offered any part of the claim when their loved one died. The policies were for anywhere from $50,000 – $80,0000.

Here is a podcast of research that was done that indicates that the more money a person has the less feeling they have for their fellow man (this is of course a generalization). The podcast is found at: http://podcast.cbc.ca/mp3/podcasts/current_20131016_97692.mp3

This should give us great pause, and a concern that we are letting the 1% rule our World without compassion for the 99%.

And you know that things have out of control when
1. Your government clearly sides with the multinational corporations, the “GMO Labeling Bill Voted Down In Senate,” Full article found at:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/23/gmo-labeling-bill-genetically-modified-food_n_3325972.html?ncid=txtlnkushpmg00000037

Our Governments allow people to tamper with our food and make us guinea pig to Monsanto’s money making machine and has no interest in protecting us.

You know that things have out of control when

2. When Monsanto (with it’s genetically modified food ( GMO) is given protection, by the President of United States (Obama), from being prosecuted for harm caused by GMO’s.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57576835/critics-slam-obama-for-protecting-monsanto/

If Monsanto pressed Obama to get the bill written and signed it mean that Monsanto must know something about their product being harmful and their company needing some protection from being sued by people getting sick in the future. If their product was harmless why get protection.

You know that things have out of control when

3. When the huge multinational corporations are invited to help draft laws that are harmful to the public interest.  For complete Democracy Now video clip see (start watching at 27 min 30 second mark): http://www.democracynow.org/2011/8/5/secretive_corporate_legislative_group_alec_holds

Here is the Corporate Interests coming out into the open to rule. They are feeling so bold they no longer feel that they have to hide anything. They are likely so brazen because the 99% have shown that they will sleep through anyhing.

You know that things have out of control when

4. When the country Canada is caught spying on other nations, on behalf of Canadian multinational corporations. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/brazil-canada-espionage-which-countries-are-we-spying-on-1.1930522

And today, as I write, the French are angry at America for spying on the French people.

Here I write, and you read the things of politics. Are we alarmist freaks that we concern ourselves over the things that most prefer to sleep over, and politicians try to placate? Or are we the prophets of democracy, declaring in a clarion call the dangers ahead, according to these things that happen before us and we decry.

I am left to ask the question…Who are we, as a people, and individuals, that we let the system we live under get so very out of our control? Who are we that we let our leaders, and those we have elected to represent us, shift so openly to promote the interests of the 1% . Why were we not angry when we suspected that it was the case. Why are we not enraged when we find it is fact.

People speak to me about conspiracies and ask me why I don’t write about it, but I am not so fearful of the actions of the 1% as I am afraid of the 99% being asleep and refusing to wake when they are shaken and why are we so stupid that we do not yet understand that we have to stop electing the Political Party Sheep.

About pushinback

Back in 1993, I attended an anti-Nafta rally in Ottawa along with over 110,000 others. But despite the overwhelming opposition to NAFTA, the steamroller rolled on. It was there that I came to understand the one vital thing that I have been preaching ever since. There are so many issues, and so many fighting each issue, we are all spinning our wheels, and wasting our time, talents and energy, because each election, we give the politicians our power and so the deck is stacked against us. I said it that day and I say it with more fervency today. We all have one issue that we share, and we should all stop fighting for our own issues and losing anyways, and we should fight to achieve that one thing that we all share. We Canadians all have to fight to finally get a say between elections. We need to fight to make politicians accountable to us, the people. If there is no accountability, and the people have no say between elections, we have no Democracy. My Blog is written to teach the reader the essential knowledge of freedom and Democracy. Please read, and learn. I am one person, but I leave you my witness that one person is not powerless, only first you must first learn and then act. Let the democratic revolution begin. Kindest regards, Rob McQueen
