As we have seen today, Rob Ford still doesn’t see that he has done anything wrong and is not going to go easy, and being a stubborn man if he has his way he is not going anywhere. Last week I wrote that Ford’s supporters are not doing him any good continuing to give him their support that will bolster his confidence to continue as Mayor, without first seeking help. It seems that is exactly what happened with the uptick in the polls has done. So he is going to have to get shoved over the cliff.
So, the question is “How many protesters will it take carrying posters in front of City Hall before Ford knows that getting help is what Torontonians want him to do?”
The long shot would be for the rest of Council to set up a mock election, where voters are encouraged to to vote for Rob Ford for Mayor, or to vote to have the Mayor to step aside. Unfortunately, in this case, the Mayor will be forcing Council to publicly spank him. Ford is banking on the Province staying out of Toronto’s business.
The other out-of-the-box suggestion is for the Rest of Council to force the hand of the Province to act. If the rest of Council would refuse to hold Council meetings the Province would be forced to act and do something. The way I see it nothing else is going to force the hand of the reluctant Province from acting, or to dissuade the Mayor from his present course of defiance.
