I saw this photo of an earlier time. I remember watching my mother washing our family’s clothes, and even being allowed to help Mom. It made me reminisce, no, hunger for a past time; a time that was simpler, and more manageable.
Anthropologists say “the tools we use shape us”, so in choosing our next tools, we have chosen, perhaps subconsciously, this insane complexity of our modern lives.
We lament that life is complex, and even unmanageable, but just as our parents did, we are still drawn to the seduction of something easier.
How can something more complicated ever result in easy?
Perhaps, rather, we should strive for simplicity. In those earlier times there was time to savour the moment, when times were simpler. I long for a moment of being with me.
